Selection Process
There are 2 ways for players to be selected for the SU Academy
1: Attend at least 1 of the 2 Trial dates to gain selection
2: Players may be identified throughout the year and invited onto the programme from Club or School teams or Regional FTC.
The Southern United Academy is a Select/Non-Select Talent Development Program for players in the Football South Region.
NOTE: Not all players who attend the trials will be selected to the Southern United Academy. The main purpose of the SU Academy trial days is to Identify the most talented players in the Football South region.
We will select four squads of 16 – 22 players across four age groups (13th grade, 14th grade, 15th grade, 16th grade). Players will be selected to the squad of their age. The squads selected will be balanced position specific squads e.g. a balance of Goalkeepers, Defenders, Midfielders and Attackers. The selection staff will also look to ensure a balance of right: left-footed players and we will also assess the month of birth breakdown within each squad.
Note: Players may ‘enter’ and ‘exit’ the SU Academy squads over the course of the year depending on many factors.
Player Entry: SU Academy coaches will be observing club games, school games over the course of the season and linking in with the Regional FTC Programmes throughout the region. Players spotted in club games or regional centres throughout the year may be asked to join the SU Academy.
Player Exit: Players who display bad behaviour, poor attendance, bad attitude or lack of engagement may exit the SU Academy.
If you are successful in the trials, you will be notified by the Southern United Academy via an email to your parents. We will also announce the four selected squads via our Southern United Social Media and through our Website.
NOTE: To be selected for the National Age Group Tournament in 2019, you must be a part of the Southern United Academy.
