One Year to go Until the WORLD CUP!!

As you may know, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 ™ is coming to Dunedin in July and August 2023, with six exciting matches being played at Forsyth Barr Stadium. At the same time, to mark this important women’s sporting event, the Dunedin City Council, Football South and FIFA are planning towards a spectacle of the biggest women’s sporting event in the world, with live matches, city activations and an immersive fan experience at the FIFA Fan Festival at the Dunedin Town Hall and Dunedin Centre. We’re excited and we’d like you to come on board and be part of it!

To start the build-up for the tournament, we’d like to invite you as part of our wider community of women and girls to our One Year to Go fun football activation at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Wednesday, 20 July 2022 (during the school holidays).   This is one of several similar celebrations being held throughout New Zealand and Australia.

The Dunedin event will include:

  • A formal welcome by the city from mana whenua representatives and Councillor Marie Laufiso.
  • Participants assemble on the stand and form the number 365 (days to go) for media attending. We are aiming to have at least 365 people do this – so tell your friends!
  • Fun football activations and challenges organised by Football South. If the weather is suitable, these will be held at the Logan Park artificial football turf.

The Stadium will be lit up for the Unity Lights activation in the evening, featuring the FIFA tournament colours.

You can be part of this event by registering at the link below, either as a group or individual. Once you have registered, we’ll be in touch with further information.
